I have some unfortunate news everyone. Due to circumstances beyond my control I'm going to have to suspend all activity on Bwillett Comics. I can't really get into the reasons why, but I've had to shut down all my work and prepare to pack it away until further notice. I'm not giving up or quitting, and this isn't because of me being depressed or hopeless. This goes beyond what I feel and has more to do with what is going on with my life. As soon as I can resume any kind of work, I will. The only exception, for the time being because I may lose access to my computer as well will be updates on Tapastic because I already have several years of work completed and can easily update Midnight Menagerie with the old pages that original appeared on the official site.

I hope you keep checking back for new information so you can find out when I'll be able to go back to work and I hope that you Patrons will continue your contributions on Patreon. I know it's asking a lot because there won't be new content for a while, but right now that money is vital. I really wish I could disclose more, but I really can't, beyond some of the worse scenarios you are imagining are probably true. Look at your contributions as an investment, and as soon as things cool off and become normal, you will be greatly rewarded for you kindness and trust, assuming everything goes well.

This also applies to people I have been planning collaborations and commissions with. All that has to be canceled for now, and I am truly sorry. If there was any way to avoid this situation, I promise, I would do everything in my power to keep it going. But at this point, I can't.

I'll update you guys as soon as I can and thank you again for all your love and support.

Hey kids. I know it's been a while since I updated my DA blog. Honestly I'm not on DA a whole lot anymore, so if y'all want more current and up to date info about my latest projects and appearances, I suggest you stick to my facebook, twitter accounts and my site: www.bwillettcomics.com Don't forget I've also got a Patreon account, so if you want early access and behind the scenes stuff, contributions start at a dollar a month.

Volume 3 of Sorcerer's Apprentice is still a work in progress. I've still got about 2 and a half chapters, as well as some chapter art and editing to do, and I'm aiming to have it available for sale by December. The first six issues of Midnight Menagerie are still available on Comixology and chapter 7 is ongoing. I always recommend getting stuff outside of the web version, because the web version of both comics is a beta. The art looks much better, and is better edited through the print and Comixology versions.

My next convention will be NDK 2016 at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Denver, CO Labor Day weekend. In addition to my table, I'll be doing a panel on making manga Saturday night in Panel Room 4 called 'So You Want to be a Manga-ka, Too?' I also regret to announce that NDK will be my last Artist Alley for a while. After some personal problems, and the fact that after 5 years I've still not made a profit from attending cons, I've decided I need a break from the con circuit to regroup and focus more on my comics. The vast majority of what I sell is art prints based off of other people's properties, and the fact of the matter is I want make money from my characters, not someone else's. With Sorcerer's Apprentice very soon returning to entirely new content, and Midnight Menagerie ending its origin story line, I don't want to spend time making art prints, dealing with prints and copy shops, as well as the stress of making convention deadlines. I love cons but they are a great deal of work and energy. I'll be selling out my entire inventory of fan art prints, goods and comics, and after 2016, focusing exclusively on my own art. Even if I do the occasional fan piece, it'll be for myself, and not for sale.

The only exception to that is commissions. After NDK I will be raising my commission prices. I do this regularly to account for cost of living and supply price increases. So I don't have any time to get commissions now, but any commission orders I get before September 5th will be honored at my old prices, so if I want to lock in that price now, contact me either via DA or my site.

Hey folks, I know it's been a while since I posted a journal here, but honestly it's because I haven't been using Deviant Art much. If you want to see a lot more current activity, I suggest you follow me on Tumblr or Twitter. Things have been sorta volatile the past few months because my health has been all over the place. I have ankylosing spondilitis and it affects my joints and causes me a lot of pain, and recently I've been getting worse and making me very depressed.

I'm slowly getting better, though.

Also, I have a convention coming up at the end of April, beginning of May called Anime Southwest in Aurora, Colorado. It's a small con but I know it'll be a lot of fun because Little Kuriboh is going to be there. I really hope I'll get a chance to meet him.

I've still be working on The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Midnight Menagerie, and am still working on having Sorcerer's Apprentice v.3 out this year, it's just going to take me longer than I first estimated. In the meantime, don't forget to support me on Patreon! Patreon funding is very important for me to get art supplies and pay utilities.

I'll be adding more stuff as I start to sell things but for everyone who's been wanting that Loki and Stitch print I've been doing: now's your chance to finally own it.

Hey folks! Just another 26 hours or so before I arrive at Nan Desu Kan this weekend for my 4th artist alley there. There's going to be a lot of new stuff: new venue, new rules and lots and lots of new products. The Artist Alley is going to be a lot bigger this year, and because NDK doesn't announce the table numbers for the artists until literally check-in, I can't post my location just yet. So instead, keep tabs on my Facebook and Twitter accounts because I'll announce the locations there as soon as I know (yay shiny new cellphone with internet access).

Just remember, no badge, no purchase. NDK is being really strict this year about that (to the tune of a lifetime ban for violation) so make sure you show me your badge before purchase.

As for what I'll be selling, in addition to Sorcerer's Apprentice v.1, volume 2, and Midnight Menagerie special edition 2 chapter con edition I will have available:

New, higher quality cardstock prints. Featuring:
*Angewomon
*Creation of Mon
*Final Fantasy VI
*Big Hero 6
*Stitch vs. Rocket Raccoon
* Cellmates (the Loki and Stitch one)
* Maka and Soul
* Tony Stark
* Kill la Kill
*Kingdom Hearts

Chibi paper craft kits, with packs featuring characters from:
*The Legend of Zelda
*Black Butler
*Soul Eater
*Sailor Moon mega pack including the entire Senshi, Tuxedo Mask and the Feline Guardians

The Final Fantasy Tribute image printed as a vinyl, water and sun resistant wallscroll.

I'll also be open for commissions and selling original pieces. Even if you don't buy anything, don't be afraid to stop by and say hi!

NDK Artist Alley by Nasdreks

Hey folks, just giving you the heads up that in about 3 weeks time I'll be doing the artist alley again at Nan Desu Kan, the Colorado Based anime convention. If you're going, please stop by and say hi because I love when people who watch me from the internet meet me in person. It's nice to know that there are human being on the other side of all those nice comments people leave me. I'm going to have a bunch of stuff for sale. I don't know my location yet because NDK really doesn't tell you where your table is until you check in.

Okay guys, I finally have a Patreon account. It was the thing I've been talking about these past couple of weeks in an attempt to get funding. It's really important that I get support, you guys. I absolutely love doing my comics and having you read and enjoy them, but I also have gotten attached to kooky habits like eating and having a roof over my head. You can see exactly what the details of what your money will do and why I need it on the profile page:

So, after renewing my website for the year the whole funding things is popping up again. I am more and more considering having a Patreon account, but like I said, that only works out if people actually contribute. That's why I want to hear back from you guys so badly. Because I don't want to invest the time and energy in setting something up, only to hear the annual 'I'd LOVE to help, Bwillett, but my own wallet has moths flying out of it' which you know, is cool, and I totally get that. But doesn't actually help me since I am squeaking more and more. And I probably won't qualify for disability because when I FINALLY get an appointment with a Rheumatologist, I was forced to cancel it because I lose my only photo ID. So if I don't get some serious funding soon, I'll be SOL.

So I have a little proposal of Patreon stuff I can offer. You might have seen this already on Midnight Menagerie, but it bears repeating:

$5 a month– early access to all pages (including Sorcerer’s Apprentice once that goes back up)
$10 a month– early access plus bonus commentary (including pointing out all the hidden references, research behind the story, stuff that got cut out.)
$25 a month– The other stuff plus monthly livestream to watch me work and ask me questions
$50 a month– Digital softshade commission of a single character (normally a $65 value!)
$100 a month– Private art and storytelling lessons where I can help you work out all your art and writing problems
$500 a month– One of the original pages from either Midnight Menagerie or Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Reminder, this is just a PROPOSAL. Meaning if you think the levels are too high, or you want to see other stuff, by all means, offer a suggestion. I'm pretty much open to anything at this point. I want ideas! I want feedback! I want a successful Patreon! Because guess what? If my funds go up that'll mean:

-More pages of Midnight Menagerie and Sorcerer's Apprentice per week. (Meaning 2 pages a week of Midnight Menagerie and going back to the 3 day a week SA updates)
-Out of Denver-metro area Artist Alley stops (because then I can start affording a vehicle)
-Print versions of Midnight Menagerie and a guarantee for Sorcerer's Apprentice v.3
-The return of Queen of Games (because I won't be constantly stressed and will be more productive)
-More videos on Youtube
-Less angsty journal posts

You can make this all happen!

In the reoccurring theme of my life is that I don't actually get enough money to support my hobbies of having food and running water, I am always trying to come up for ways to get money with my actual talents. Recently I was asked whether I'd do a Patreon account, which for the uninitiated is like a subscription service where people pay money so that artists/musicians can continue to, you know, create art and music and make a living from it. Since most web comics are free it's a way for people to support the artists behind the free content so that content can continue.

At the time I said I didn't and probably wasn't going to, since whenever I bring up the issue of money a lot of my fans stand around whistling pretending they didn't hear me. But it doesn't hurt to ask, right? I bring it up because on of the issue of these crowdfunding issues is coming up with incentives that actually encourage people to spend the money.

Soooo, if I were to do a Patreon fund, what kind of things would encourage you to part with you guys and your hard earned cash? A couple folks on twitter were talking about things like live streams, but what else? Right now I'm more specific about Midnight Menagerie, because as I've explained, Sorcerer's Apprentice is a slightly different situation as I lack access to my inking table until further notice. I've seen other artist do free commissions to top donators, private art lessons, skype sessions. I'm pretty open at the moment so sky's the limit.

Bwillett Comics is back*

About 90% of my problems are still badgering me and I don't know when they'll end soon, but a couple weeks back I managed to go to Denver Comic Con. It was a huge risk for me to go to the con, especially since I wasn't able to find anyone to give me a ride or hang out with me, but I already had bought the tickets and no risk, no reward. I got to meet up with all my Artist Alley peeps and I finally found the Cardcaptor Sakura nendoroid, some Sailor Moon plushies and Hyrule Historia for 50% off cover price. I also was able to arrange to have internet brought back to my house. It got installed today so I've been catching up with stuff. My computers are sooo out of date that when I updated my work computer I nearly killed it. It's going to be a couple of days before everything is properly debugged before I can start working again.

In other news that means updates are not only back to the regular schedule for Midnight Menagerie, it also means I'll be able to do more thorough social media for it if you haven't already been following me on twitter or facebook. However, there is sort of an asterisk for this announcement. *While updates and new pages of Midnight Menagerie are back, Sorcerer's Apprentice is going to be on an extended hiatus. Why? Because I've had to start work on clearing out my house and the desk I do all my traditional work: inking, painting, essentially anything 'real' has been blocked off and will be blocked off until further notice. So not only do I currently not have any paper to work on the series, I don't have a place to ink either. This also affects all my traditional commissions, so that means no marker stuff either. Midnight Menagerie and digital commissions are still on the table because my office is currently not blocked. At least for now. I'll be spending most of time working on dealing with the house and my current problems, but Midnight Menagerie will still be updated because I only work on it on weekends.

Sorcerer's Apprentice isn't being canceled. In fact, I plan to start having the books in more stores starting very soon. However, book 3 and the chapters for it will have to be put on hold for a while. But eventually, the story will continue. Thanks all for your patience and support

Hey friends. Unfortunately, the horrible stuff that has been plaguing me since my last journal has not gone away. At this point I'm a little scared it won't ever go away and there is a genuine possibility that this might be my last journal. I've been stuck at home for the past two months and unable to access the internet because I haven't been able to leave my house. In between my incredibly stressful situation I have been trying to get some work done so I've got a bunch of art to post. I also have some pages of Midnight Menagerie and I've uploaded them so that for the next four weeks y'all will be getting two pages a week, keep checking back because I won't be able to announce the updates.

As for Sorcerer's Apprentice, circumstances are a bit different for two reasons. One, the pages are a lot more work because they are done traditionally with pen and ink, and two I have run out of materials to work on new pages and can't replace them because this situation has nuked my savings and I can't take commissions as long as what's happening is happening. The good news is that I have been accepted into NDK's Artist Alley again, but right now I have no idea if I'll even be able to go. This is really ruining my life, you guys, so if you have a chance, please send some positive wishes my way, I really need this to turn around.

Thanks to everyone who has been commenting and faving and stuff. If you commented, I will eventually reply to you, I promise!

Hey, remember last month when I was talking about how horrible my current situation was? Well, I can pretty much officially refer to those as 'the good old days'. Things have gotten worse. I cannot and will not say why. All I'm explaining is why nothing has been updated for a month despite me saying the hiatus would last until end of February and here it is, end of March. Because of current undisclosed situation, I cannot say when or if things will get updated again. This has been my first chance to use the internet in over a month. Just guys, wish me luck please. I need all the positive vibes people can give me.

News

Hey everyone, I'm still on hiatus but I thought it was important to update you guys on my current situation. I know the hiatus was extremely abrupt and sudden and I didn't give a whole lot of info the first time around. I tend to be a very private person, particularly when things are going badly for me because I don't like people to worry about me, but the fact is my private life is currently very relevant to what's going on now, so I'm forced to let people know exactly what's going on. Recently I was cited with a code violation on my property, and despite trying to reason with the county and fight an extremely unfair ticket, I lost, and as a result I am now stuck with an extremely huge fine until I find some way to fix the situation, which with my current health could take a while. I will have to pay the county $300 bucks a month unless I can find a way out of it, which is what me and my mom have been trying to do these past few weeks and why this hiatus is happening.

So what does this have to do with you guys? Quite a lot, actually. The fact of the matter is I need to move out and get out of this county. This incident is the latest in a long line of blatant violations of my civil rights and unfair harassment. But I can't move out until I start having a steady income. Because I am disabled, I can't get a 'regular job', but I need to start making at least $2000 dollars a month. Currently I only make 10% of that (aka, $200). As a result I need to start doing commissions regularly as well as focus on fixing my home situation. I haven't opened up commissions very often in the past because I have spent most of my working time doing my comics. But that has to change.

First off, I am canceling Queen of Games. I know that is sad news for a few of you, but I have been working on this series for seven years. It was intended to be a replacement for Cardcaptor Torika, but the reality is, despite my best efforts, it has never gained even a fraction of the popularity, and I cannot afford to waste time on something that can't make money. And because it is a doujin, I cannot legally get ad revenue from it. And even if I could the traffic just isn't there. I am very sorry about this. If things ease up I might be able to finish the series out as a fan fiction. I'd thought about doing in the past and writing has always been far faster for me than drawing. But I can't make any guarantees just yet.

Also on the potential chopping block is Sorcerer's Apprentice. Despite all my hard work on getting out volumes 1 and 2 in a timely manner, almost none of you have bought any copies. I have only sold 7 copies of volume 2 total. The money I get from ad revenue is almost nonexistent. I work hard and advertise the series, have tried contests, donation drives, advertisement at conventions and promotions, but y'all don't seem to talk about it, and my readership has never increased that much. I don't blame you guys, clearly I have not created something that excites you guys enough to talk about it or tell your friends and family to read it. So if I don't see some serious increases in traffic, and if I don't sell at least 30 copies of Sorcerer's Apprentice v.1 and 2 altogether by the end of March, the series will be shelved. I really, really don't want to do this, but much like a television show that doesn't get ratings or a movie that doesn't see box office profits, there isn't much sense in investing in a property that doesn't even return your budget. This really shouldn't be a huge surprise since I've been hinting about the subject for months now.

Midnight Menagerie will continue as normal, at least for a while, since I only do one page a week and that only eats up about a day's worth of work, and the readership is much, much higher. However, update days will switch from Tuesday to Friday because I have to cut back my internet travel days to one day a week. I don't have internet at home and instead travel to the library to do updates and respond to emails. But if I don't start selling some issues (seriously guys, they are only $3.99 an issue, is that really that expensive?) then I might only continue until the end of this current story line. Otherwise I will not be picking up any projects unless I am getting paid for them. I will also be increasing my current commission prices in order to accommodate my new situation. This is a pretty desperate situation, and thus it calls for desperate measures.

Hey everyone, I have some bad news. You may have already seen the announcements on Sorcerer's Apprentice and Midnight Menagerie, but in case you didn't I'm laying it out all here. For the next month or more I am going on hiatus. And when I mean hiatus, I mean hiatus of all projects. This means my webcomics, Queen of Games, my commissioned projects, my fan fictions, even daily sketches on Tumblr. The reason for this is because a big thing I had hoped wouldn't happen did, and to avoid going homeless I need to fix a couple of things in real life. In addition to not updating projects I will also be only going online once a week. I won't be commenting, faving or anything on DA. And I probably won't be replying to comments until the hiatus is over. I am very sorry for all this but it cannot be helped in any way. Thanks for all your support and patience and I hope everyone can understand.

Or, why Queen of Games sometimes takes forever to update.

I plan to have new Queen of Games pages up this Friday. I know I'm really bad about consistantly updating Queen of Games, and there are a couple of reasons for that. At any given time I am working on anywhere from 4-10 projects that are in various states of completion. For example right now I've got two original web comics (Sorcerer's Apprentice and Midnight Menagerie) an ongoing Fan Fiction, a job doing character designs and sprites for a game, and currently, a new cosplay I want to debut at Denver Comic Con. And on top of that Queen of Games. Why do I do so many projects at once? Particularly since I have such bad health? Partially, I need to have multiple projects as a way to motivate myself. If I try to buckle down and work on one thing at a time, it gets tedious and I get bored, so things go even slower. Another has to do with my health. Some steps are more or less plausible based off of how I am feeling. On days when my back is killing me, it's easier to sit and type with my laptop. Yay! That means new fan fiction updates. Oh crap, I only slept for an hour and a half last night? Whelp, that means panel layout because that takes next to no thinking!  And so on and so forth.

The other factor is based off of money. Because I am disabled, but currently not on disability (this is what happens when you have a difficult to diagnose autoimmune disease and a series of doctors who seem like they've never seen a real human before) that means my only sources of income is the rent I get from my mom and the pittance I get from commissions and ad revenue. Since Queen of Games doesn't get ad revenue (it's based off a copyrighted property and I don't want to run into the migraines Little Kuriboh seems to constantly be dealing with) Queen of Games is literally last on my list of priorities. It's not that I don't love the series, or the characters, or that I don't have fun working on it (most of the time). It's just I have kooky hobbies like eating and having running water, thus what pays gets worked on first. So if you're ever wondering why 'so and so' series is updating before Queen of Games, or why some projects go MONTHS without updating, this is why.

I apologize for being really bad about updating some of my comics lately. First off, since no one entered the Halloween Contest there are no winner to announce. Maybe better luck next year.

Anyhoo, I'm restructuring my artist alley inventory for next year with all new products and that means all the stuff I still have needs to go. I'm retiring a whole bunch of print designs, getting rid of old merchandise and even putting Sorcerer's Apprentice v.1 on sale. All the stuff is going to be heavily discounted and on a first come, first serve basis. If you've been wanting to get some of my prints and hadn't been able to get it because of not being at any of my conventions, here's a chance to not only get stuff, but get it really cheap.

Hey guys, if I want to read the special Halloween comic I made for Midnight Menagerie before it gets posted on the site on Halloween. Vote for Midnight Menagerie on Top Web Comics. Voting for the comic unlocks the incentive. Not only do you not have to sign up or anything to vote, it's an easy way to support the series without having to spend anything. Though spending is always encouraged as Issues 1, 2 and 3 are also available on Comixology. Also, don't forget that I've still got my contest ongoing with some pretty nifty prizes.

Unfortunately, due to some sill IRL stuff there are going to be some blips in some of the schedules. I've had to do a lot of paper work recently and later in the week I have to do some traveling which means I'll have very little time this week to actually sit down and draw. That means no new Queen of Games this week and it's possible Sorcerer's Apprentice will be late. I mentioned in an earlier journal that some silly stuff might interfere, and unfortunately, it has.

On the bright side, this Saturday is Halloween Comicfest. I didn't get my costume done for this year (once again, IRL drama) but I'll still be plenty in the spirit and going to my local comic book shop. I suggest you guys do the same and it's always a lot of fun. Candy, costumes and free comics. What's to complain?
